Ugni molinae - Chilean Guava (15cm tall)
An evergreen shrub made up of tiny, dark green, simple leaves. Beautiful pink and yellow, bell-shaped flowers bloom from June, shortly followed by blackberry sized, red fruits. The fruits are not only full of wonderful strawberry and pineapple flavours, but they are also full of lycopene and vitamins. The berries are perfectly edible fresh or can be processed into jams, cakes or eaten dried. Start your morning right by adding them to your breakfast muesli or fruit salads. Ugni molinae is suitable for pot growing and can make an excellent bonsai subject.
Vaccinium corymbosum - Blueberry Elliott (20-25cm)
A deciduous shrub which has a rounded, bushy habit with multiple seasons of interest. From late spring to early summer, clusters of pearly white flowers bloom on the bare stems. In mid-summer, an abundant of medium-sized, juicy, edible blueberries form amongst its leaves. They will happily produce their fruits in a medium sized pot. The sweet tasting fruits can be eaten raw or can be used to make jams, tarts, and preserves. The berries are known to be full of vitamins and antioxidants. Loved by not only us but by the birds and the bees too! The fruits are followed by an excellent display of autumn colours.
Aronia prunifolia - Purple Chokeberry (30-40cm)
A small, upright, horizontal branched shrub that receives great interest during the months of Autumn due to its magnificent fiery red and orange autumn colour and the hundreds of purple-black berries that are produced. When the pine-scented blackcurrants become ripe enough, they can be made into an excellent jam or can be used to make tasty muffins. The fruits are high in antioxidants. Self-fertile and tolerates a range of soil. The Purple Chokeberry branches out freely and is suitable to be grown in a pot on the patio.
