The Styrax obassia is an upright, slender deciduous tree that originates from Japan (can reach to a height of 3-4m). It has a rounded habit with simple yet decorative dark green leaves. Masses of white, fragrant bell-shaped flowers bloom in racemes during late spring, early summer. In older trees, their smooth grey trunks exfoliate and can reveal a stunning orange inner later which adds winter interest. For optimum growth it is best to position it where it will receive full sun, partial shade. It can withstand temperatures as low as -15c. An excellent starter plant in a 7/8cm pot.
