A large deciduous small tree or large shrub that has a handsome form and foliage, originating from California. From late spring to early summer a spectacular display of creamy-white flowers bloom, giving off a beautifully sweet scent. Later on, the flowers give way to rough-skinned, pear-shaped fruits (not edible). It is a low-branched tree and has smooth, pale silver bark which contrasts beautifully against its glossy dark green leaves. The California Chestnut has an early leaf drop, forming a wonderful silhouette during the wintertime.
