The shrubby like persimmon has attractive evergreen shiny dark green foliage. Greenish yellow flowers are followed by tasty small plum sized rounded and sometimes elongated fruits which mature from orange to a light red colour, enclosed in a papery, red calyx in late Autumn. Diospyros whyteana is mainly dioecious, therefore male and female plants are both needed to ensure a good crop of fruit. Planting three together and growing it as a multistemmed looking tree would certainly enhance fruiting. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis delightful species thrives in a warm sheltered position and is not fussy about soil conditions and even heavy wet soils are not a problem.
