Tasty Treats for Small Gardens

September 13, 2021

September not only heralds the start of autumn and a noticeable change of season, but it is also the month for harvesting.

We have put together a list of 9 heavy cropping, tasty fruit shrubs (as featured in ‘The Garden’ magazine) that can produce a bountiful crop even when grown in pots on the patio or in the smallest of gardens.

These ornamental fruit shrubs can easily produce baskets of fruits each year, not only filling your garden but your tummy too. There is nothing more rewarding than growing your very own supply of juicy, succulent fruits and eating them straight from the garden (that is if the wildlife hasn’t beaten you to it!) or preserving them to make your own jams, liquors, and cordials.

In their natural habitat, the shrubs are often grown as understorey plants in woodlands. Most of them are even suitable for shadier areas, so even if your garden looks full, a pot or two placed under trees will enhance your fruit crop and add a second level to that area.
