Aralia elata is a distinctive deciduous shrub, known for its brittle, thorn-covered stems (hence the name), massive compound leaves, and striking panicles of white flower heads. These are followed by clusters of black berries, making it highly ornamental. In autumn, the foliage turns vibrant shades of orange and bronze, adding even more visual interest. Aralia can grow up to 3–4 meters tall, but with regular pruning, it can be maintained at a more manageable height of 2–3 meters. It is a hardy plant, tolerating temperatures as low as -15°C.
We have excellent quality, 10-15cm tall plants for sale.
