Cercis chinensis is a deciduous small tree or shrub that has heart-shaped, leathery leaves which are tinted a purple-red colour when they unfurl. In the early summer, clusters of striking, pink flowers bloom along the stem and old trunk which contrast beautifully. The Chinese Redbud is known to look exotic, adding a tropical layer to your garden. As it gets older, it develops a weeping habit and can reach to heights of 4-5m. For optimum growth it is best to position it where it will receive full sun, partial shade. It can withstand temperatures as low as -15c. An excellent 10cm starter plant in an 8cm pot.
