Eucommia ulmoides is a small tree with simple leaves, interesting, greenish flowers late Spring and a very late, yellow/orange autumn coloration. The Hardy Rubber Tree is a traditional Chinese medical plant, part of the 50 most important Chinese herbs. Ultimate height is rarely more than 4-5m but it can be trimmed. It has a rubber-like sap which, if extracted, can be used as rubber but the extraction process is complicated. Easy to grow, a great urban tree, withstands air pollution and drought.
