Maackia hupehensis – Chinese Maackia

  • Maackia hupehensis is a small deciduous tree from central and southern China. It produces handsome composite leaves, similar to ones of the false acacia. Upright, creamy white flower appear in early Summer, followed by 5-8cm long hanging, green pods which only change colour to yellow in late Autumn, matching the overall yellow autumn colour of this lovely plant. The young shoots are covered in silvery-silky sheen in Spring, a highly prized ornamental. The maximum height of this plant is 4m; however it is not very fast growing. The Chinese maackia prefers a good fertile soil, full sun and starts to flower at the age of 4.

  • Small sedling (5cm!) tall plant in an 7cm square pot.
