An elegant, medium sized tree (reaches a height of 4-5m) with an abundance of almost drooping branches, decorated with huge, 10-20cm wide, white, or light pink, flowers with a reddish throat – they really do look exquisite! Its leathery foliage puts on a charming display after the flowers have bloomed in May. Showy, 15-20cm long, pink-red pods hang from the branches in mid-Autumn and its leaves turn a wonderful golden yellow before they drop for the Winter. It prefers a slightly acidic soil, and some moisture, if these match, it grows well in the UK. Hardy to -15C, no overwintering issues. It can be grown in a large pot too.
