Melicope pteleifolia, Euodia lepta, Zanthoxylum pteleifolium -Thin evodia, Sanyaku

  • Melicope pteleifolia (syn Euodia lepta, Zanthoxylum pteleifolium) - Evergreen be-bee tree, Thin-evodia, Sanyaku

We are one of the few nurseries in Europe to propagate and sell this stunning evergreen species. It's a lovely evergreen relative of the deciduous Bee bee tree from Southeast-Asia (China, Vietnam, Cambodia) with shiny, hairless, trifoliate leaves and creamy white flower heads. The whole plant has a citrusy, lemony scent especially when the leaves are crushed, and also a favourite of bees. Thin-evodia can form a small tree or be kept shrub-like, hardy to -5C when established.
It is widely used in traditional Asian medicine for inflammation, fevers, and skin issues, and as a vegetable/tea, with modern research confirming its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.
It can be planted out against a south facing wall or grown in a 20-30L container (it will flower well even in a pot) and then overwintered in a polytunnel or cold greenhouse.

We have one year old, 15-20cm tall, leafed-all-year-round plants available.
