Prunus ilicifolia is a very attractive fruit plant with more or less toothed, evergreen, shiny leaves (similar to Holly). It is a drought tolerant, large shrub or small tree that is native to coastal California. Evergreen Cherry produces large, sweet, cherry-sized fruits that mature in September and are edible raw or processed. From April to May, beautiful, lightly scented, white flowers are in bloom which attract the wildlife. The leaves are known to give off an almond like smell when crushed. The Prunus ilicifolia can make an excellent unusual bonsai.
