Thujopsis dolabrata is a very distinctive conifer with densely arranged and overlapping leaves which closely resemble those of the Thuja. The scales of the Lizard Tree are of the largest in size amongst all the species of conifers, hence the nickname "reptilian scales".
The scales give the tree a handsome, decorative look, especially as one side has an attractive silvery coating or hue. Even though not a real living fossil, it certainly looks the part, as if dinosaurs comfortably walked amongst them millions of years ago. Thujopsis is fast growing as well. It will thrive in a British garden and is hardy down to at least -20C, since it originates from Japan's second largest main island, Hokkaido.
We have lovely, lush, 10-15cm tall, one and a half years old plants available for sale.
