Vaccinium macrocarpon - Cranberry

  • Vaccinium macrocarpon is a small evergreen shrub that is native to North America, Canada and NE-US. It is known for its slender branches that trail along the surface and curl upwards. From June to August, white to pink tube-shaped flowers bloom in clusters. From August through to October the seeds ripen. Dark red, peanut sized, edible fruits are produced which are known to be a super fruit due to it being rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. The fruits can be dried or used for juices, cakes, yoghurts.

  • For optimum growth, the Cranberry is best to be planted in dappled and on slightly acidic, moist-rich soil. It is self-fertile and can withstand temperatures as low as -20c.

  • We have excellent quality, 8-10cm tall young seedlings, freshly potted on offer.

  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
