• Aralia elata is a quirky deciduous shrub with brittle, thorny stems (hence the name), huge, composed leaves and panicles of white flower heads, followed by lots of black berries, very ornamental. Leaf colour turns to orange and bronze in Autumn, really showy. Aralia grows up to 3-4m but it can be kept around 2-3m with some pruning and it can withstand temperatures as low as - 15C.
