Rhamnus cathartica (Purging Buckthorn) is a native shrub with insect-loving, white flowers in Spring, followed by black fruits and a yellow Autumn coloration. Easy to grow, it grows well on calcareous soil. The fruit is not edible and can be poisonous if consumed in larger quantities (laxative, purgative).
