Pyrus pyraster is a small, rounded or conical shaped tree or large shrub, native to Central and SE Europe. The Wild Pear is suitable for almost every garden with a sunny spot. It tolerates drought and atmospheric pollution well and can even be grown in a pot in the centre of large cities. Planted out into the ground or not, it will open pure white flowers in April, followed by red or yellow, gooseberry-sized, tasty little fruits (soft and juicy when ripe). It offers a spectacular Autumn coloration when the rounded, shiny leaves turn to the shades of yellow, orange or even red. Well worth a try, fast growing but easy to shape/prune.
- We have excellent quality, 15-20cm tall starter plants on offer.
-
The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
