Styrax formosanus - Taiwanese Snowbell (10-15cm tall, one year old) A small leaved version of the Japanese snowbell, with masses of beautiful, fragrant, bell-shaped hanging flowers early Summer. It has a wonderful golden yellow autumn colouration. It can be grown in a pot on the patio and can make an excellent bonsai subject. Styrax formosanus is fully hardy.
Styrax japonica - Japanese Snowbell Tree (15-20cm tall, one year old)
A sweetly scented, lime loving small tree, native in the Far-East. The showy, drooping flowers appear early Summer and cover all branches. Yellow Autumn colours elevate it to a mid-Autumn highlight. It thrives in any reasonably moist garden on neutral or acidic soil, also in a pot, with an ultimate height of 3-4m but it can be shrubby.
Pterostyrax corymbosa - Epaulette Tree (10-15cm, one year old)
A stunning when in flower, this medium sized tree will grow fine in a sheltered spot in the garden, or in a pot. Originating from China, the Pterostyrax has beautiful, hanging racemes in mid-Summer, with hundreds of white flowers, which resemble epaulettes. The long racemes give the tree a weeping appearance. Foliage turns a spectacular yellow in Autumn with interesting, hairy fruits developing which are quite decorative.
