A rarity, Eriobotrya deflexa is a fast growing, striking evergreen shrub or small tree that originates from China. The Bronze Loquat is known to have an architectural characteristic due to its striking flowers and showy foliage. The leaves are toothed and have an almost leather like texture, they start off a glossy green to red/brown and then mature to a dark green. In the Summer, the tree bears scented flowers of a prominent dark pink which are then followed by fruit in the September- October. The fruit is similar to that of an apricot and has a sweet but slightly sharp taste. It is great for small gardens or the conservatory when positioned in full sun to partial shade. It is drought tolerant and hardy to -5c.
- We have 2x fresh seeds on offer with a pot, filled with our sowing compost. The seeds will germinate in February if kept between 0 and 15C, they don't have much dormancy. Expected height in 2025: March - 2cm > April 10cm > May 15cm > June 20cm > August 30cm.
