Prunus tomentosa is a very rare, deciduous fruit shrub that originates from Japan, Korea and China. The Nanking Cherry foliage is bright green and is covered in fine hairs on the undersides of the leaves. In early spring, single white flowers appear which are followed by cherry sized, edible, red fruits. Their flavour is somewhere between tart and sweet. The fruits can be enjoyed when eaten straight from the shrub or when cooked to make jam, pies, and jellies. For optimum growth it is best to position it where it will receive full sun and partial shade.
- 10-15cm tall starter plants on offer. They can reach 40cm by August.
-
The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
