Acer negundo var mexicana - Mexican Boxelder Maple

Acer negundo var mexicana is a fast growing ornamental maple species from Central America, producing bright green shoots which remain green for a number of years instead of forming a natural bark. The newly formed pinnately compound leaves have a pinkish waxy coating when young. The flowers themselves are tiny but they develop on eye catching 8-10cm long drooping stalks, which are highly decorative as it flowers before the leaves appear, just like the lovely yellow colours which appear in Autumn. Easy to grow and this Acer will thrive in many soil types and the yearly growth can exceed 100-120cm in height.

It can withstand temperatures as low as -15C.

We have excellent quality, 20-30cm tall starter plants, which will grow to 1.5m in height next year.
