An extremely cold tolerant Crabapple, withstanding temperatures as low as -30C. Native in Western Asia and Siberia. Its bright red fruits vary in size, but it is common for them to be a similar size to the gooseberry. The bare branches are laden with fruits and remain well into winter, creating a spectacular sight. The fruits are delicious when ripe, and can be added to cakes and jams, or conserves when soft. An abundant of white flowers decorate the 3-5m tall tree from mid-Spring, becoming a heaven for bees.
