One of the hardiest shrubs around, Caragana arborescens or Pea Tree - originated from Siberia and Mongolia - will thrive in many soil types on full sun or dappled shade and will flower abundantly from late April - the bright yellow flowers compliment the fresh, light green leaves well and attract many pollinator insects. These are followed by numerous seedpods which twist after "ejected" the seeds in the Autumn. The seeds are edible, especially when cooked or a stew can be of them. Ultimate height is 3m or so (without pruning), but it can also be grown in a pot on the patio. Fast growing, hardy to -30C...
