Malus ioensis is a beautiful, ornamental Crab Apple that originates from the US. The Prairie Crabapple is excellent for smaller gardens and for bonsai with it being a small tree. It is known for its spectacular double light pink flowers that are in bloom in the spring time and its spectacular colouration during the autumn. Before the leaves change colour and fall, it produces fruits that can grow to the size of a small apple and remain green even when ripe. It is fully hardy but for optimum growth, the tree prefers to be positioned in full sun or dappled shade. It is to be grown in well-drained, fertile soil.
