An unusual, upright shrub from South-America, Aesculus parviflora has trumpet-like, small, white flowers in May followed by masses of blue-violet coloured fruits which remain on the branches until mid-Winter (looking very attractive). The deciduous plant has small, dark green leaves with spines in-between. The Bottlebrush Buckeye would need to be ideally placed against a wall, near the house or at the gardens entrance where it is protected from cold winds. It is hardy enough for most of the UK over winter without protection. It is also an ideal bonsai subject, and can be trimmed.
