Andromeda cernua, Enkianthus cernuus - Nodding enkianthus, Shiro-dodan
A graceful shrub from the Heather family, native to Japan, where it grows on rockier slopes in hillside forests. It is highly valued for its pink, globular shaped, drooping flowers which appear in Spring and equally for its spectacular red Autumn coloration.
Being quite a compact plant further enhances its versatility in the garden. The flower corollas are fringed at the mouth and they display a subtle elegance against a background of bright green fresh foliage. It prefers a slightly acidic soil and it doesn't mind being moist provided the soil is free draining. Fully hardy.
