Ficus carica Ice - Fig Tree flat fruited variety

Notify me when this plant is available:

  • Ficus carica ice is a hardy, deciduous plant that is of the large fruited variety from Central Europe. The fruits appear from August – September. They are a brown, slightly flattened fruit with a dark red flesh that can reach up to a weight of 100g (roughly the size of a small tomato). The fruits are weather resistant and ready to pick and eat from late Summer – Autumn.

  • The plant is well known for its distinctive foliage that is made up of deeply cut, jagged leaves looking similar to the shape of ice crystals. We offer different leaf forms, slightly lobed to deeply lobed. It makes a great architectural plant due to its ornamental leaves and in the Autumn its foliage turning a golden yellow. After the leaves fall, the figs tend to remain on the bare branches.

  • The fig has been cultivated since the ancient times, growing wild in dry and sunny areas. It is a very hardy plant so well suited for the UK’s growing conditions. It is a parthenocarpic plant meaning that there is no need of the fig wasp for pollination.

  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
