Passiflora ligularis - Sweet Granadilla

  • Passiflora ligularis (Sweet Granadilla) is a fast growing, fruiting, vigorous evergreen climber that can reach up to heights of 5m, originating from South America. It is known to produce the biggest fruits out of the Passiflora family. The leaves are heart shaped and can be 20cm long. In the summer, fragrant flowers are in bloom that are made up of greenish-white sepals and white and lilac petals that surround a purple-bluish and white filament. The flowers are followed by edible fruit. The fruit is a yellow-orange colour with slight markings, it can reach up to 8cm in length and 7cm in width. The outer part of the fruit is slippery and hard but, in the inside, it has soft padding to protect the seeds. The edible pulp is very sweet and often used for jams and beverages. Hardy to -2C.

  •  We have fast growing, fresh, 10cm tall seedlings available.

  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
