Syzygium paniculatum - Magenta Cherry

Notify me when this plant is available:

  • Syzygium paniculatum is a beautiful flowering and fruiting evergreen tree that is native to Australia but can sometimes be seen around the Mediterranean coasts. Flowers on the new growth are it very pretty; showy powder-puff flowers(creamy colour) are produced in late Spring to early Summer. Following on from the flowers are cherry sized fruits with a crispy flesh surrounding a pea sized seed. The fruits are succulent and have a fleshy pulp which is sweet in flavour. Can be eaten raw or cooked. The masses of red, purple and pink fruits are particularly pretty when ripening in the Winter. Best to grow in large pots on the patio (or planted in the garden for the Summer) and if apart from the south coast of England, it should be overwintered frost free in an unheated room or in conservatory. It has dark green, glossy foliage but its main attractions are the flowers and fruits. The Magenta Cherry prefers a well-drained but fertile soil and requires regular watering; however, it is not too fussy to soil conditions and light.

  • We have excellent quality, 20-25cm tall starter plants on offer.
  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
