Diospyros kaki - Japanese Persimmon, Sharon Fruit

Choose pack size:

  • The Sharon Fruit is juicy and sweet when ripe and an excellent food source for birds during winter as the fruits remain on the branches for a long time. The edible fruits can be eaten straight from the tree or added to fruit salads and yoghurts for a change of texture and flavour. Diospyros Kaki is an elegant, ornamental fruit tree with beautiful, leathery foliage that turns a vibrant orange during autumn. Its fragrant, tiny bell-shaped, yellow flowers appear among the large, leathery leaves in May. It starts to produce fruit from around the age of 5.

  • Please note, the plants are generally dioecious (opinions do differ as to whether they are unisexual or dioecious). So, we would advise you to consider ordering a few plants (of the same variety) to achieve a greater yield of fruits.

They may cross pollinate with the other Diospyros species.

  • We have excellent quality, 10-15cm tall plants on offer.
  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
