Hamamelis virginiana is a large, deciduous, erect shrub or small tree. It is recognised for its brilliant autumn attributes. The bright yellow, sweetly scented flowers bloom when you least expect it, clinging onto its arched branches during autumn, sometimes through to early winter. The Virginian Witch Hazel’s flowers have crinkled, ribbon-like petals which contrast beautifully against its smooth grey bark. The broadly oval leaves appear light green before turning a dark green, eventually becoming a magnificent golden yellow in the autumn.
