Prunus mume - Japanese Apricot

  • The Prunus mume represents the end of Winter, starting to flower in mid-January, giving you a beautiful sight mid-winter (even with snow on the branches!). The Japanese Apricot is extremely hardy and has been grown for hundreds of years, the fruits a traditional food in the Far-East, used as a flavouring in alcohol, used in juices, in sauces and as a pickle. The edible fruits turn yellow when ripe, however they do have an acidic taste. The foliage turns orange and yellow in Autumn. Easy to grow, not fussy to soil conditions and prefers full sun. It is suitable for pot growing.

  • Fresh, strong, 50-60cm tall plant, these should reach 200cm by next Autumn.
  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
