Extremely rare in cultivation, yet the Sechuan Persimmon (Diospyros cathayensis) even makes a wonderful pot plant, if not planted in the garden. Native to the Southern parts of China, this often shrubby persimmon has highly ornamental, evergreen, shiny, dark green foliage. greenish yellow flowers, followed by small plum sized, rounded or elongated fruits, maturing to orange to light red. Mainly dioecious, therefore male and female plants required for fruits. We offer them in pairs to increase the chances for both but having too pairs, planted together would help even further.
It prefers a sheltered, warm spot but still hardy to about -10C. Not too fussy to soil conditions and a moist, heavier soil is acceptable, too. Ultimate height in cultivation is just 2-4m.
We have one year old, starter plants on offer. Two plants will be sent in separate 8 cm pots.
