Elaeagnus umbellata - Autumn Olive

  • With its poetic name and striking appearance, the Autumn Olive is as charming as it is hardy. Native to Asia, this versatile shrub thrives in a wide range of soils, tolerates both sun and shade, and handles coastal winds and drought with ease even surviving temperatures as low as -30°C.

Its silvery leaves and stems give it a graceful glow, especially when golden, highly fragrant flowers bloom in spring drawing in bees and other pollinators. By autumn, the real reward appears: clusters of tiny, silvery berries that ripen to red and fall effortlessly when ready to harvest.

Though small (about a centimetre wide), the berries grow in the thousands on a single plant. Eaten raw or turned into jams and jellies, they're rich in fibre, packed with vitamins, and even edible seed and all.

  • We have excellent quality, 10cm tall plants for sale.
  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
