Nyssa sinensis or Chinese Tupelo has one of the best Autumn coloration of all trees as the leathery leaves turn a stunning orange and red in October. The leaves are even bigger than the ones of the Black tupelo and the tree has an impressive, elegant , even tropical, lush look. The Chinese Tupelo can be grown on a ferti;le, woodlandy soil with acidic to neutral pH. The flowers are small, with a creamy colour but the edible raw or processed dark blue fruits are also decorative. Fully hardy in Britain, it is best started in semi shade when young.
