Passiflora ligularis - Sweet Granadilla

Notify me when this plant is available:

  • Passiflora ligularis (Sweet Granadilla) is a fast growing, fruiting, vigorous evergreen climber that can reach up to heights of 5m, originating from South America. It is known to produce the biggest fruits out of the Passiflora family. The leaves are heart shaped and can be 20cm long. In the summer, fragrant flowers are in bloom that are made up of greenish-white sepals and white and lilac petals that surround a purple-bluish and white filament. The flowers are followed by edible fruit. The fruit is a yellow-orange colour with slight markings, it can reach up to 8cm in length and 7cm in width. The outer part of the fruit is slippery and hard but, in the inside, it has soft padding to protect the seeds. The edible pulp is very sweet and often used for jams and beverages.

  • Please note that the plants don't have many leaves on as they were overwintered unheated, however they are about to start to grow (height is 10-15cm).
