Hemsley's Fragrant Snowbell is another rarely offered species, a small deciduous tree, native in China (it can reach to a height of 3-4m). It has a rounded habit with simple yet decorative dark green leaves. Masses of white, fragrant bell-shaped flowers bloom in terminal racemes in June. On older trees, their smooth grey trunks exfoliate and can reveal a stunning orange inner later which adds winter interest. For optimum growth, best to position it where it will receive full sun, partial shade. It can withstand temperatures as low as -15c.
