Punica granatum 'Acco' - Red Fleshed Pomegranate (10-15cm tall)
The Acco produces round fruits of a medium-large caliber, very colourful both externally and internally. The fruit ripens early which means September in the UK. The grains are of a pleasant ruby red and have a sweet flavour. The numerous red flowers are of a semi-compact habit, their ultimate height being 1.5-2m, however the shrub can be trimmed heavily. Any established plants will flower freely on any good soil. It prefers a hot position, for example against a south facing wall but will flower in a good protected sunny position. The Red Fleshed Pomegranate is believed to have originated in the area of East Iran to Northern India but has been cultivated around the Mediterranean for so long (several millennia) that its true native range is not accurately known. This plant is easy to grow and is well suitable for the patio too. The fruits ripen better if planted against a south facing wall or if kept in a conservatory from mid-August until harvest (except the South coast of England). It overwinters well outdoors, being hardy to -15C.
Punica granatum 'Parfianka' - Parfianka Pomegranate (10-15cm tall - freshly potted)
The Punica granatum parfianka has angular branches and ornamental, glossy leaves. The fruits produced have a sweet taste with a hint of acidity. From Spring to Summer, showy, red trumpet-shaped flowers bloom. It has a very good cold tolerance.
