Diospyros lotus is a very elegant, ornamental, small fruit tree with a great autumn coloration. Green, tiny bell-shaped flowers are in bloom from mid to late Summer. The Date Plum produces very sweet tasting fruit when ripe with an exquisitely rich flavour. The fruits can be eaten straight from the tree or dried (grow to the size of a tomato). This is an excellent food source for the birds during Winter. Its fragrant flowers appear among the large, leathery, full leaves. It starts to produce fruit from around the age of 5.
-
Please note, the plants are generally dioecious (opinions do differ as to whether they are unisexual or dioecious). So, we would advise you to consider ordering a few plants (of the same variety) to achieve a greater yield of fruits.
-
They may cross pollinate with the other Diospyros species.
-
We have excellent quality, 10-20cm tall plants on offer.

-
The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
