Euptelea polyandra - Fusakazura, Euptelea

  • Euptelea polyandra is a small multistemmed tree (3-5m tall) from Japan, part of the Witch hazel family (Hamamelidaceae). Rarely cultivated but planted in various arboretums throughout the UK. It offers handsome, broad leaves which are coarsely toothed and bronze tinted when young and in the Autumn. Beautiful, spindly, petal-less flowers appear on naked stems in spring, before the leaves develop, similar to the Parrotia flowers. The tiny, winged fruits, similar to the Elms' remain the branches after the leaves drop, giving a further highlight early Winter.  It will grow well on a slightly acidic, moist soil in dappled shade or full sun, hardy to -20C.

  • We have excellent quality, 15-20cm tall plants on offer.
