Quercus glauca - Japanese blue oak

  • Quercus glauca, also known as the Japanese blue oak is very rarely seen in the uk, yet in a sheltered spot or as a bonsai, it could now thrive. A beautiful evergreen, often shrub-like plant with a bluish hue on the leaves, also with a coppery bronze young growth. Slow grower but it makes a pretty ornamental even in a pot! The acorns are edible but not raw - best roasted, after leaching the tannins out with multiple boiling.

  • We have evergreen, 8-10cm tall, one season old plants available.
