  • We have carefully curated a collection of our Winter Flowering shrubs which will add vibrancy to your garden during the duller, colder months.

  • The rare Winter Flowering Shrub collection contains one of each plant in either an 7cm, 8cm or 9cm pot.

  • White Christmas Box – Sarcococca confusa (6-8cm tall): A lovely evergreen shrub with dark green leaves (also known as the Sweet Box). This plant produces delicate flowers between December and February that have a powerful honey-like fragrance. The heady perfume carries some distance so it is very welcoming in the drab days of winter. The White Christmas Box are easy to grow due to a number of factors; they are somewhat drought tolerant, fairly low growing at 60cm and they even make good shrubs for patio pots where the fragrance can be enjoyed. They are also superb as specimen plants, ground cover or low hedges when established (they can be pruned).


  • Wintersweet – Chimonanthus praecox (10cm tall): Chimonanthus praecox possess sweetly scented and highly fragrant, creamy yellow, bell shaped flowers that appear on bare, light brown stems in the middle of Winter. The glossy, lanceolate leaves turn a pure yellow in the Autumn. On hot Summer days, the deep green, leathery leaves release an aromatic scent of a mixture of cinnamon and cloves. The Wintersweet is a medium sized (2m tall) shrub, ideal for Winter borders and looks stunning against a natural wall or even in a large pot on the patio. It is best to keep it close to a path or entrance of the house for you to fully appreciate its strong fragrance!

  • Early Stachyurus - Stachyurus praecox (10-15cm tall): A deciduous shrub that is very showy in the early spring and late summer. The Early Stachyurus has 10-15cm in length slender-pointed ovate leaves, dropping racemes and 10-12cm in length bell-shaped, pale yellow flowers late winter to mid-spring (already visible on the plant in winter). These are produced before or together with the appearance of young leaves, the flowers diffusing a sweet scent. It often develops an arching habit. As the foliage matures, the petioles redden through the primary vein and the toothed margin of the leaf has a fine defining line of red. In autumn, the foliage turns to the shades of red to purple. As the flowers fade, small berry-like fruits appear which turn to yellow-red later on. This plant is tolerant to wetter soils and grows best in semi-shade.
