Ulmus parvifolia - Chinese Elm ( edible )

Chinese Elm is rarely available to purchase, yet this handsome edible tree is perfect as a pot plant or as a bonsai specimen. Native to Southeast Asia, including China, India, Vietnam and Japan.
Sprinkled with small, leathery leaves, turning yellow in the Autumn, its flaky, orange, brown, green bark is a further highlight in the Winter months.
The young or maturing fruits are a delicacy and offer a nutritious snack or food topping with a nutty flavour. The young shoots and inner bark is also edible.
Fully hardy and fast growing, it doesn't mind to be trimmed or trained.

We have available, freshly potted, one year old, 20cm tall plants propagated from seed.

  • The intended main use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption. We always recommend further research to learn the different ways in which the food source can be prepared and consumed.
