Camellia sinensis var sinensis - Tea plant

  • This is the real Tea plant, which you can grow successfully in a larger pot in the UK. Camellia sinensis var sinensis is a bushy evergreen shrub that originates from China. The Tea plant has ovate, simple but glossy leaves that contrast beautifully against the clusters of pure white flowers which appear from late Summer, but the young twigs and foliage is used for tea, after drying. You can cut it 2-3 times a year. When the shrub is young, the leaves are bronze tinted but mature to a glossy dark green.

It will prefer semi shade and a sheltered position from hard frosts but it also can be moved into a conservatory or polytunnel for the Winter.

  • We have excellent quality, 10-15cm tall starter plants on offer.
