- We are delighted to introduce to our range another beautiful evergreen Southern Beech species, the Nothofagus dombeyi or Coigue. It produces small leathery toothed edged dark evergreen leaves and as the tree matures the bark cracks naturally becoming rugged and reddish in colour with jagged scales. Although this species can reach a height of 40m if not pruned, it can be grown quite happily in a container and it also makes an excellent bonsai subject. Native to Argentina and Chile Nothofagus dombeyi likes a fertile moist well drained soil in either a shady or sunny spot. Perfect for adding colour to the season in Spring with its glorious display of red flowers enhanced by the red anthers of the male flowers. Fully hardy to -15C.
